PEEKS AT OUR MORNING.

i picked up the camera this morning and then set it down this afternoon. here are a few peeks at our morning...

we started this day out with a big family breakfast. papa is the breakfast king. then we started school. let me say that we are loving our new history curriculum. we recently switched and are so so happy that we did. birdie entertained us by just being birdie, she's a ham. she spent the morning wearing nothing but a diaper and rode around proudly on her wheely cow. she also watercolor painted herself a green beard which i sadly didn't get a picture of. sailor napped most of the morning away, waking every now and then to nurse. julian and plum made some fun origami art and we listened to sam cooke and miike snow. the rest of our morning was spent with heads buried in books.

the afternoon and evening were just as busy as our morning. we made lunch together, the little ones napped, the big kids built tents out of wood, vines and sheets in the backyard and built their own, supervised, mini camp fire. we did daily chores, we bbq'd for dinner, we laughed, we talked... it was just a good, regular old run-of-the-mill day spent at home, together.

PREPARATION.

hello friends. it's been a little quiet here (on the blog, not in our home) over the past week. we are busy preparing for baby boy and getting everything in order for his arrival. that includes gathering last minute necessities that i had forgotten like disposable newborn sized diapers (we use disposables until the umbilical cord falls off) and stocking up on diaper wipes, getting things ready for this upcoming home/water birth, setting up the birth pool and making sure that we have everything on the list that our midwife gave us to have on hand during the big day. washing little clothes and linens, setting up a space downstairs for baby boy to nap during the day while we homeschool, finishing his nursery corner, installing an infant carseat, catching up on household chores and of course trying to enjoy some good old family time before things around here change, all while keeping up with our regular schedule and other responsibilities.

i feel like this baby is coming soon (i will be 38 weeks on friday) and honestly, i don't feel ready, like this is all happening so suddenly and we are very much unprepared, although on paper it looks as though we are doing pretty good. i think i am worrying too much and am not quite sure where this anxiety is coming from. hopefully it will calm soon.

RIP LITTLE FISH.

it was a sad morning here in the bleubird house. julian woke up to find his pet bala shark upside down in his fish tank. (he received an aquarium for his birthday a couple of weeks ago and got to pick out five special fish.) the bala shark was his favorite. needless to say, he was heart broken. there were tears and there was a funeral, complete with a tiny fish size cardboard casket and some freshly picked flowers. he asked us to take pictures of the little guy so that he could remember him forever and ever. he also wrote in his fish journal about the experience. so sad and so sweet.

rest in peace little fish.

sometimes i find myself sitting here much like tonight so completely depleted, just staring at the computer screen saying to myself "okay, you need to blog now. what are you going to blog about? come on... you've been doing this for awhile now. just go, start, right now!" and there i sit, just totally blank, staring at my screen. nothing prepared or in mind. could it be writers block? i have never considered myself a writer, so i'd like to say no. uninspired? maybe. just tired and needing some good old fashioned sleep? most likely. i'm going to go with number three tonight and get some rest.

but before i go...

- birdie was pushing the cart at the thrift store this evening and was saying "WOOK AT ME! I PUSH IT. WOOK!" that little sentence just melted me into a little puddle on the floor. she is so darn cute!

- i finally hung something on our newly painted living room walls. i thrifted a round beveled mirror the other day and we hung it hoping that it would inspire me to hang the rest of the art and pictures that we have. but no, i still can't do it.

- i get a lot of home schooling questions via my blog and through email but recently i have been getting more than ever before. questions like what type of home schoolers we are and how we do it. which curriculum we use, our schedule, questions about socialization, etc... i have stayed pretty clear for the most part about our home schooling journey for a few reasons. some of those being unsolicited advice, judgement, closed mindedness and just plain old rude and sometimes even mean comments about our decision. these things have caused me to keep that part of our lives separate from what i share here on the blog, but i have realized that there are so many more people that have real genuine questions. people that really want to find out more about it for themselves and their families. i think i will put together a little Q & A post on our home schooling experience. it is a GIANT part of our lives after all and it seems silly not to share some of it here from time to time. i am looking forward to sharing a little more about this part of us. it is something that i am very passionate about. feel free to bring on the questions and i will do my best to answer them in a future post.
