EXPLORING OUR CITY

we got out and explored our city a little bit the other day. the weather was perfect and aubrey has been telling me how cool the marathon motor works building is, so we grabbed sailor and went to check it out. now called marathon village and once an early automobile manufacturing factory here in tennessee, it has become a music venue and the home of many great small studio spaces and businesses. we had coffee at garage coffee company and sandwiches from bang candy company where sailor met a new little friend. bang candy company is known for making amazing chocolate dipped marshmallows. we're big fans. we also stopped into antique archaeology which is owned by mike wolfe of american pickers. very cool place!

it was a brief but fun mid-day adventure. such a cool part of the city. if you are ever in nashville i recommend checking out this area of town.

A NIGHT AT THE CARNIVAL

we went to the williamson county fair with the kids last night. it was supposed to rain but we pulled on some rain boots and headed towards franklin anyway. it sprinkled only a little bit, just once, early in the evening. the pictures are pretty self explanatory. we had a lot of fun, cotton candy, caramel apples and corn dogs. my girls and i are the only ones that like the rides so we got unlimited fun passes and rode as many as we could. juj stuck to the games and aubrey and baby sailor walked around watching, snacking and visiting the animals. fun times were had by all. i love a good old fashioned carnival.

footnote: the second to the last photo is of me kicking julian's butt in a water gun race. i was pretty excited.

TODAY WAS GOOD

yes it was.

we ventured out to the splash pad near the walking bridge downtown because man, it's hard getting back into the regular swing of things after a four day weekend, don't you agree? it was a little crowded but we had fun. birdie was in heaven, sailor not so much. i thought for sure that he would be all about playing in the water because he loves his baths like no other child i have ever met, but he was not into it. he preferred hanging out with mama on the fake grass, in the shade.

afterwards we went to a little spot called hot and cold to get popsicles. it was the only way i could convince birdie to leave her splash heaven. i had a rose water and mint iced coffee. it was so unique and refreshing. then we stopped at the place next door called fido for a late lunch. it was good, but a little pricey for what it was. i got the local burger which is supposed to be one of the best nashville has to offer. i'm no food connoisseur, but i would say that it's good, but nowhere near as good as a burger from burger-up or the pharmacy at the same price.

we came home after our tuesday adventure and took afternoon naps. long naps. i took one too! it was hot today and boy did we feel it.

BITS OF OUR WEEKEND

like i mentioned before, this past weekend was a great one. it was spent mostly outdoors, surrounded by the ones we love. one of my favorite things about this city is that there is always something going on that is family friendly and most importantly, free. having four kids, even two kids during the summer, can get expensive. when we go to the movies we spend over a hundred dollars, so it's nice to get out and do something fun without breaking the bank.

we stopped by the franklin farmers market bright and early saturday morning for crepes, fresh juice and to pick up a few local groceries. we got the crepes and groceries, but sadly the juice was already sold out. one of these days we will try juice nashville. i have heard they are incredible.

after the farmers market we headed home for the little kids nap time and then ventured out to a concert in the park with some friends. we saw some great bands, including one of my favorite singer/songwriters, brooke waggoner. it seemed like every food truck in town was there including "the grilled cheeserie" which i have heard so many great things about. they did not disappoint.
