SIMPLE STYLE.

over the past few weeks i have been slowly but surely slaughtering my way through my closet. call it the texas closet massacre if you will. i wen't "all-in" this time. there are empty hangers dangling from the closet bar, my drawers are nearly bare and there are several large black trash bags filled with my victims piled in a corner. there is only a small collection of truly loved, cherished and classic pieces that have survived. i'm proud of myself. this wasn't an easy thing to do. i had to get honest with myself and really analyize each and every piece. my shoe rack is still full but only for the time being. i will make my way over to it shortly with my imaginary machete. i have a feeling that this may be my hardest battle yet. pretty shoes are hard for me to part with.

simply put, i am over having a jam packed closet filled with clothes that i don't wear. i want to rid myself of all of those trendy pieces that i have only worn once or twice and i am only hanging onto those that are timeless, classic and dearly loved. i will no longer buy something that i cannot see myself wearing time and time again, year after year. investment pieces if you will and i'm not talking about price.

if i had to describe my personal style i would say casual, comfortable, classic vintage. i think lots of linen and cotton, a great pair of blue jeans, perfectly plain and perfectly worn t-shirts, with a bit of late sixties/early seventies mixed in. i see mostly flat, comfortable shoes including a strong pair of heels for when necessary and a timeless pair of leather boots. i think of mostly neutral colors and lots of texture. don't get me wrong, i have a huge affinity for the fifties and early sixties, i love a pretty peter pan collar and a full waistline, but those are things that i don't wear often. i tend to pull those dresses out when i am dressing up for special occasions and having fun with my clothes and so most of them will be going, while the few truly beautiful and loved ones will be staying for such an event. i am excited for a more simplistic focus when it comes to my style. staying true to myself with a minimalistic, seemingly effortless feel. that is when i feel most comfortable and confident and that is what is most important to me.

i plan on only adding a few pieces to my newly simplified postpartum wardrobe. like i mentioned above, a good pair of jeans. i got rid of most of my jeans in my purge, so i am on the hunt for a new pair once baby boy arrives. i am also looking for a great pair of leather boots. these are both things that i don't mind spending a bit more money on. i will be sure to share my choices with you when i find/acquire them. i will also continue sharing a bit more about my mission towards simple style with you now and then if you don't mind. it's still a work in progress.

IN GOOD COMPANY.

my aunt and uncle came down to visit us today. they were in austin over the past few days from the sf bay area and wanted to drive down to houston to spend some time with us. it is not often that i get to see my family and so of course i was delighted and looking forward to their company. sandy is my mothers sister, tim her husband. they are two of the kindest people i have ever known. i love them both dearly and hold them close to my heart.

birdie instantly took to them as most people do. the last time we saw them was at the wedding (last november) for a brief time. i hope to see more of my dear aunt and uncle very soon. there is this warm and calming feeling of home when they are around. a rare yet always welcomed feeling. until next time.

BAD KITTY.

CAT FOR SALE! ...okay not really, but i am really starting to think about it. my adorable ragdoll kitty cat, lennon, has been one very bad kitty. he's always been a bit of an asshole. he's lazy, he wines and cry's all day and demands attention. he has zero respect for other peoples things, for example he will sit on anything that he shouldn't be sitting on: freshly cleaned laundry, on top of the record player, the records, the kitchen table, the counters, printers, the keyboards, the coffee table, pretty much any flat surface and he's there. he'll squeeze his way into tight spaces knocking down anything in his path. he has broken many of my little deer and fawn figurines along with the one in the picture above. he knocks over glasses of water, vases with flowers, you name it. all of this is frowned upon of course, but as of lately he has been all sorts of naughty...

he's been PEEING ON MY SHOES, which is a serious NO NO! and his new thing is the kitchen rug or floor. i do not find this is amusing what so ever and have been putting him on some major time outs hoping that he will learn his lesson. so far he doesn't get it and i don't know what to do. some have told me that hes jealous of the baby but that just seems a little silly to me. others say he's trying to get attention but this cat gets heaps of attention. others say he could have a bladder infection which seems a little odd but i guess it could be true and then some say that it could be his age... he is 11 after all. i just don't know what to do but this bad behavior needs to stop or else i'm kicking him to the curb. it's just a matter of time and he'll be peeing on the baby. grrrrs...
anyone have any advice, experience or knowledge for this desperate bad kitty owning mama? it would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.
