BITS + PIECES

1. he gives kisses now. all day long.
2. aubrey and i have been very sick with what has been going around town over the past few days. we are doing our best to keep the kids well.
3. beetlejuice pants and a fox tail.

8. in love with the new issue of kinfolk.
9. this morning birdie woke up with a cough and a low-grade fever. keeping her hydrated and resting today.

11. lots of hot tea with lemon oil these days.

it's been awhile since i have shared some bits + pieces. it's a post that i truly love and will try to share more often. this week has been a rough one. aubrey and i have been very sick. in and out of the doctors office, on antibiotics and supplements, all while trying to keep the kids healthy. i thought we had managed to keep them clear or this terrible bug until this morning when birdie woke up warm to the touch and coughing. i suppose it needs to make it's rounds. i foresee a few more trips to the doctor in our near future. crossing my fingers that we are well by christmas.

BITS + PIECES OF OUR THANKSGIVING

bits + pieces of our thanksgiving.

1. my beautiful sous chef and cousin who flew in from chicago.
2. hors d'oeuvres: homemade artichoke dip and sour dough bread, a cheese plate with fig jam, crisp crackers and castelvetrano green olives and homemade mushroom pâté.
3. a handful of guests and a busy kitchen.
4. on our table: a roasted turkey and a second fried turkey. fresh green beans with a balsamic onion marmalade. hatch chili and roasted corn bread. roasted root vegetables with caper berries, homemade macaroni and cheese, cornbread stuffing with sausage and cranberries. yams, grilled corn and a winter salad with roasted butternut squash and gorgonzola crumbles. dijon au gratin potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy. cranberry-orange sauce and last but not least, pumpkin pie and a rosemary, bourbon, sweet potato pie.
5. a little bit closer.

we hosted thirteen people at our home this year. old friends, new friends, my cousin and a last minute surprise guest. my father drove down after finishing a job the night before in illinois and made it just in time for dinner. my first thanksgiving spent with my dad since i was two years old and by far one of the best and most special. i couldn't be more thankful.

AROUND HERE

hello! this week has been a productive one for me. summer vacation is coming to an end and it's time to get back into school mode around here. i took the big kids clothes shopping the other day. they grew like weeds over the summer. shoes were getting tight and pants were getting a little short. we stocked up and now they are set for a few months. i filled out all of the necessary paperwork for homeschooling this year. i ordered our books the other day and pulled out some others that i collected over the summer. the rest of the week will be for mapping out the first term of our school year, creating a schedule to follow as far as goals for learning and signing the kids up for their outside classes and activities. i am hoping to put together a small field group here in nashville for mine and other homeschooling kids to come together once a week and explore nature, meet new friends and learn together. i plan on putting together a brief outline of our homeschooling schedule, book list and a glance at how we do things like i did last year for you all shortly.

i have been looking into a morning program for birdie to attend a couple of times a week. i think that she will enjoy it. we will continue her montessori at home activities and i look forward to sharing some of them here with you again.
