A WORK IN PROGRESS

here are two very small glimpses into my home. i would love to give you a complete house tour, but i am afraid that my house is no where near complete. we still have boxes in nearly every room or at least every closet. this house is many of the things that i desired in a new home. it's large, open, has lots of light, high ceilings, white walls and wood flooring on the main level. it also has some things that i don't really care for like weird angles, a pink marble and brass fire place and 90's porn star track lighting. since we are renting this house, we can't do much to change the things that we dislike. i am in the middle of giving our fireplace a temporary face-lift right now and i am trying to make our current furniture work in our odd shaped living room. the track lighting, i am at a loss for. i have learned to just not look up and to keep my camera pointed down. our turquoise sectional isn't working in our new living room space and i am purchasing a new-to-me sofa this week, that i am pretty excited about. i am also having wall art commitment issues and have not hung much yet. our new space is a work in progress and still somewhat of a blank canvas. as i start to figure out each room, i will keep you posted and share my progress.

CUMBERLAND PARK

one of our favorite places to spend an afternoon here in our new city is cumerland park. we call it teletubbie park because it reminds us of the silly old show with those colorful alien-like characters. the park is right near downtown next to the cumberland river and right below nashville's famous pedestrian bridge. it's impressively clean, modern and full of fun things to do. the rolling ground is part astroturf/part live grass and it has a large concrete area with fountains for splashing. these photos are a few weeks old, while the weather was still cool and the fountains were not yet turned on. we picked up lunch and picnicked with some of our sweet friends and their equally sweet kids.

now that summer has officially begun, i hear the fountains are on and we can't wait to visit again with swimsuits, towels and sunscreen in tow.

HELLO SUMMER

outside the weather is warming up, the bugs are flying and it feels like summer. this means late nights and late mornings, lazy afternoons, picnics in the park, countless hours swimming, backyard bar-b-ques with friends, leafy garden salads, homemade sangria for the adults and ice cold popsicles for the littles. my big kids spend the majority of their summers in florida with their dad. i have only two short weeks left with them until their big trip, so we decided to celebrate the school year coming to an end with a little water party out back. we filled up the kiddie pool, hooked up the sprinkler and broke out the slip n' slide. the kids spent hours playing in the backyard and soaking up the sun. even little sailor got to splash around in a pool of his own. after the sun started to fade and it was time to come in, milla said to me "today was the best day ever!" with the biggest smile on her face. we all had so much fun.
