my style hasn't really changed much since becoming a mother. i think if anything has effected my style over the years, it's my age. i will say that being a mom now definitely does make me lean more towards comfort when getting dressed for the day. when i was younger, and as a new mom at the age of 21, i was pretty good at keeping up with some of my favorite trends. i wore dresses and heels most days. now, ten years later, i still love my dresses and i still love my heels but i prefer to wear flats most of the time, especially when i've got a tiny baby on my hip. i'm more relaxed about fashion. i wear what i like. i try to look and feel good by spending a few extra minutes on myself in the mornings. most days i dress somewhat casual. a flowy dress and sandals, a full skirt and fitted blouse or jeans and a tee shirt with some extra cute shoes. i tend to keep it simple. i like to look and feel like i dressed up even when i don't have the time. if you are a mama yourself you know that time is something that we have very little of. often times we neglect ourselves because we are busy taking care of everyone else. but it's important to spend an extra five or ten minutes taking care of "us". here are a few of my easy feel good/look good staples:
one: i make sure that i always curl my eyelashes and put on a couple coats of mascara. even if i only have a minute to get ready, i never fail to wear mascara. it really is a miracle worker for the eyes.
two: bobby pins!!! i keep bobby pins on me at all times and leave the hair ties at home. this way if i want to wear my hair up, i am forced to spend an extra minute or two pinning my hair up in a cute way and not throwing my hair up in a regular ponytail or bun.
three: dresses & skirts. these two pieces of clothing are my best friends. there are so many ultra comfortable and flattering dresses and skirts out there in so many different styles that can so easily be thrown on with a cute pair of flats and voila... you instantly look like you're dressed up.
four: jewelry. we all love jewelry and wearing a simple necklace or a pretty ring or two can dress up your look and add to your style in a big way. effortlessly.
being a mom is absolutely incredible. the pure joy that we feel when we look into our childs face is sure to shine through and make us look and feel more beautiful than anything. let's embrace it.
