hello dear friends & readers! i am really excited about this new feature here on the bleubird blog. for those of you who follow me on twitter or instagram, i am sure you are familiar with my kiddo lunch photos that i have been posting for the past couple of weeks. for those of you who do not follow me on twitter or instagram, i have been taking photos on most mornings (when i have the time) of what i pack my kids for lunch. many of you have had questions like "what is that green stuff?" and "where did you get that cool lunch box?" so i figured it was about time to post a little something on the blog so i can explain a bit more than just the 140 characters allowed on twitter.
the bento style lunch boxes that we use and love are from goodbyn and i am so excited to announce that goodbyn and bleubird have partnered up to show you new ways to re-invent the average school lunch and how to save money and help the earth by having an all in one, recyclable lunch box. no more zip lock baggies needed peeps!
when i was little (if you're reading mom, you might want to stop here...) my mother packed me the most awful lunches, bless her single mama heart. haha. very basic and boring. it was bologna sandwich with a piece of american cheese on dry nutty bread, a bag of granny goose potato chips (remember those?), a red apple and a little box of apple juice. fine and dandy for sometimes, yes, but you see, i got this in my lunch every single day, year after year, after year. maybe every once in awhile she would buy something exciting like fruit roll-ups or a little serving of apple sauce but 95% of the time this was lunch. i would throw away everything except for the chips and the juice or once i was eight and old enough to assemble my own lunches, i would secretly make myself butter and brown sugar sandwiches instead of bologna and cheese. i got caught, i got in trouble, but man were they good. i decided that i didn't want to do this to my kids. i wanted them to actually eat their lunches along with getting good nutritious food. i wanted them to enjoy their lunch time. so i try to get creative. i try to give them stuff that i know they like and try not to load them up with a bunch of preservatives. which can be tough to do when you're a busy mom, but it can be done. i plan ahead, i use dinner left overs, i have fun with it.
so here's a peek at what we had for lunch this week...
egg salad sammie on honey whole wheat. cutie wedges & cherries. cashews. tiny dill pickles. ants on a log and a few chocolate covered pretzels.
california roll (store made). cherries. organic milk. seaweed salad aka that green stuff you might have been wondering about. left over pasta with turkey, tomato basil sauce and three fig newman cookies. (the tiny chop sticks are under the milk.)
coconut water (a new obsession in this house). strawberries & grapes. annie's cheddar bunny crackers. natural peanut butter cookies. cous cous with hearts of palm and black olives. fresh mozzarella and plum tomato salad.
i only photographed 3 days of lunch this go around due to such a hectic and eventful week. (see posts below.) but will try to show you what i pack each day as a regular feature.
okay so about the goodbyn... so many of you have asked what i think and where you can you get them. well, it's no secret, i LOVE them!!! they are bpa free and dishwasher safe. it's all in one so there's no need for individual plastic baggies for your foods. they each come with a little water bottle (not shown... yet) to fill with water, milk or juice and best of all, they come with the cutest little stickers so your kids can personalize and decorate the air tight lids to make them their own. they have two sizes, the original goodbyn for big kids or adults and the new goodbyn bynto, for smaller appetites and snackers. goodbyn is offering bleubird readers 15% OFF their snazzy and brilliant lunch boxes. discount code: BLEUBIRD at time of checkout from goodbyn.com! sweet. at this time they are only shipping domestically. (apologies to my international readers.) also... goodbyn is on facebook!
footnote: i will be back to my fashion/style posting self next week. my goal is to post an outfit each day and maybe even, (maybe) my pajama day outfit too. ha! lets face it, we all have those days where we don't get dressed and throw our hair up in a bun and stay hibernated in the house. i allow myself no more than two of these days per week although i'm not going to lie this past week i have broken my rule and spent most of the week in comfy clothes trying to play catch up around these parts. so the hope is that next week, starting monday since aubrey is out of town on a photo shoot over the weekend, that i will shoot photos of each outfit. i miss those posts so i'm dedicating a week to them. fingers crossed i can do it!
