FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS.

milla plum has this second grade project coming up where the kids are holding a school store and they need to make some product to sell for play money. we did some brainstorming and she decided on friendship bracelets. i was so excited because i used to love making friendship bracelets when i was her age. i remember making so many that my wrists would be covered in them. my friends and i would wear them for so long, like months, and they would get all dirty and stinky. haha. plum and i bought a rainbow assortment of embroidery thread in all of her favorite colors and tonight we got started. they take a lot longer to make than i remember. good thing she has a week until they are due. we will most likely be making them everynight until the school store opens. we need to make sixty. wish us luck.

OLD PHOTO LOVE.

i love old photographs. i have books full of them from when i was a wee girl that i cherish. when i go through them i can't help but wish for a more simpler time. a time before the internet, before cell phones, before social networking. sounds a bit hypocritical since i run an online business, am a blogger, love my iphone and have a twitter account but i can't tell you how often i think to myself "i would trade it all to live and raise children back in the 50's or the 60's, heck, i'd even take the 70's." not only for the amazing clothes and furniture but i feel like life was a bit more innocent, there was privacy, the times seemed safer and pure. people were more respectful. i like that. anyway i came across photographer irina werning recently (i was reminded by joanna who blogged it yesterday) and her "back to the future" project. she loves old photos and is obsessive about recreating them today. her work is brilliant and inspiring. take a look for yourself...

isn't her work incredible?! i just love this idea. i have been wanting to do a similar thing with recreating this photo of my mother and baby me...

but it being gemma and myself. i guess i should get on that since birdie is growing like a weed. be sure to check out irina wernings site.

MAMA STYLE: FEATURING DANIELLE OF SOMETIMES SWEET.

today's mama is my friend danielle. she just had an adorable baby boy named henry, gemma bird thinks he's a cutie, and a lovely blog called sometimes sweet. she's always looking pretty and put together so i just knew she would be a great choice for mama style.

danielle's style tips: i have long hair, so i've been trying out various hairstyles to get my hair up and away from my breastfeeding son. he's 3 months and has begun grabbing at it, and let me tell you...OW! so this braid look is great.

also, i used to wear dresses and skirts constantly, but since having henry i've found myself gravitating a bit more towards jeans. but if i do go for a girlier look i almost always pair them with thick tights, so when I'm bending and moving around no one gets a little peep show. my main concern is comfort right now, and then next, how can i make this cute? for me, i try to think about being able to move, i gravitate a lot towards stretchy skinny jeans, comfy dresses, and clothes that are functional as well as adorable.

danielle's look is crazy simple but also crazy cute! jeans are a maaajor mom staple, but there is a difference between cute and flattering jeans and "MOM" jeans. danielle does jeans right! want a cute pair of skinny jeans? try these. or snag a pair of bell bottoms like these. here are a couple cute tops with peter pan necklines... one & two. oh and this top is so so pretty. how about these cute comfy flats, (i have them). and here's a necklace that i just love. my very favorite part about todays style tip is that it includes a pretty hairdo! so often mamas neglect their hair. i know how much of a pain it can be to style your hair let alone get in a shower but danielle's milkbraids are perfect for a day when a shower isn't in the cards and it's so much more appealing than the messy bun or ponytail.
