our weekend was sooo good! friday night was the devandra banhart show. we arrived about ten minutes late, loaded baby gemma bird into her baby carrier, put her little headphones on and started to walk around the back of the building towards the front so we could meet our friend who works the venue and enter the show. when walking around the back, we stopped so that aubrey could grab a pacifier out of the diaper bag for gemma. just then a bus pulled up. the door opened and devandra walked out by himself and started walking towards us. it was a surreal moment. i couldn't believe that my musician dream crush was walking right towards my little family. he looked up, right at me and smiled. i smiled back and completely froze. i was star struck. as he walked in our direction all i could think to myself was... "oh my god, that's him. that's devandra."... "wow, he's beautiful."... "ask him for a picture."... "he'll totally take a picture with us if i just ask." ..."open your mouth and ask him."... "he's walking away, ask him now."... "oh my god, just ask him before it's too late."... "dammit it's too late." and then he was gone. (insert major frown on my face now.) i'm still kicking myself for that one. how amazing would it have been if we'd have gotten to take a picture with devandra at gemma's very first concert?! oh well.
we walked inside. bumped into a few friends and acquaintances and then the show began. he sang so many of my favorite songs including baby, long haired child and angelika. seeing devandra banhart and bringing gemma along was very important and sentimental to me because we played his record while we were welcoming her into this world, during our home birth.
the show was great. little bird slept through the entire thing and julian and milla plum fell asleep about a third of the way into it. it was a happy and successful night. we arrived home just after midnight and tucked everyone into bed to rest up for edward sharpe the next day...
on saturday night we arrived at the edward sharpe and the magnetic zero's show about thirty minutes before they went on. we took a picture next to their tour bus on the way in. julian & milla were hoping they would come out like devandra did the night before so we could get a picture, so i told them we could wait for a minute or two (just incase.) they didn't come out so we went inside.
the venue was packed. they had a surprisingly big turn out compared to the show the night before. we saw some friends inside which was a nice surprise. after chatting for a bit we found a nice corner of the venue next to a wall so the kiddos could lean up against it when their legs got tired. the show was incredible. the band was energetic and full of life. alex has amazing stage presence and is so fun to watch. and their sound guy did an awesome job. they sounded like perfection! we danced, we sang, we jumped around... we cheered, we clapped, we had a blast. and little gemma slept through the whole thing.
after the show we stopped by the ice cream truck parked outside the venue and let the kiddo's indulge. i mean what a dream to be a child and have mommy suggest ice cream at midnight! it was a special occasion after all.
it was a dreamy weekend full of love, family and great music.♥
