oh yes! i am back with the poms. this is a project that i have had on my 'to-finish list' for quite awhile now but life happens and projects are easily set aside. as most of you know i have been on a pom pom making kick this fall/winter and here is a lovely wear-able piece that you can easily make right at home.
project length: approximately 2-2.5 hours to complete.
here is a step by step picture guide to show you how to create the yarn pom poms. you will want to make a couple different sizes of poms. to do so just wrap more or less yarn around fingers when wrapping your yarn, as shown in photo 2. necklace/scarf can be as big or small as you choose. the one that i made called for 10 pom poms in all. 6 larger sized and 4 smaller. i chose to make my poms pretty big, but you can make yours smaller for a more subtle look.
(be sure to keep the ties long on you're finished poms. you need them later on.)
once you've finished making your pom poms, set them aside and grab the color of yarn that you would like to use for your 'chain'. you can make your chain as long or as short as you would like. to make your chain cut a total of 9 equal pieces of yarn. (mine measured approx. 6 feet) after your yarn is cut, tie all 9 pieces into a secure knot and then separate them into threes. now simply braid them to create your chain. tie and secure end as well.
now for the fun part. determine the center of your chain and then simply tie your poms next to each other securely. you can play with the different sizes and where you want each color to be placed as you go. you want the poms to be very close to each other so they sort of 'bundle up'. once all your poms are attached to your chain hold it up, try it on and smile because your all done.
i put together a few "how to wear" suggestions for your new pom necklace & scarf. you may wear it tied higher on the neck as a lovely scarf/neck warmer, and let me tell you, it really does keep your neck warm. or wear it lower as a necklace.
I LOVE MINE!
i would love to see the creations you come up with! please share pictures with me if you decide to make one of your own. i chose a mixture of warm and cool colors that i adore for these colder months.
can't wait to see what you come up with. have fun!!!
xoxo. james.
