our house is full of readers. my big kids read for a couple of hours each day. birdie has loved books since she was a baby, in fact her first word was "book" and she still loves a good story accompanied by silly voices courtesy of the appointed narrator. sailor likes to flip through pages and enjoys chewing on corners. my kids are all on track with good reading habits and i am very pleased. i try to read for at least thirty minutes a day, but am finding it difficult to set aside or find those quiet stretches of time for myself. i try to read early in the morning, but lately i just don't get around to it. aubrey and i have made a pact to spend that last 30 minutes before bed each night reading instead of ::gasp:: catching up on social media, do you do that too? those few minutes should be spent in a good book if you ask me. some say that "the five steps to becoming a happier person is to 1. read. 2. read. 3. read. 4. read. 5. read." i know there are other ways to create more happiness in your life, but i do agree that reading is one of them. it's peaceful, relaxing, therapeutic and fundamental.
here are some books that we are currently reading: milla - the mysterious benedict society and ivy and bean take the case: book 10. julian - adventures of huckleberry finn, the fellowship of the ring and eldest. birdie - i'm a frog! aubrey - drinking with strangers. sailor - trucks go and skippyjon jones. me - just kids by patti smith and french kids eat everything. i may have also started that one book. you know the one that nobody wants to admit to reading or even thinking about reading. yeah that one, but i haven't picked it back up since reading about that crazy room.
what are you reading? any good book recommendations for the young and old? ...thank you for sharing!
