it rained most of the day yesterday, on and off, turning our little garden party into a house party. as hard as it may have tried, the gloomy weather did not ruin our time. it was a simple celebration. we had fruit and bruschetta along with pasta salad, chicken kabobs and hot dogs for the kids and mini cakes for dessert.
gemma bird had a permanent grin on her face, for the most part, spending time with close friends and family. she did manage to dirty up her skirt pretty good during one of the off-again times when the rain had stopped. she decided to share her birthday party with the chickens and the mud in the backyard which resulted in her spending the remainder of her party in her birthday suit.
we sang happy birthday, which i think frightened her a bit, and she blew out her two candles, which she fell in love with and had us re-light so she could blow them out again and again. she then opened up her gifts. we asked that friends bring birdie a book in place of a toy as she really doesn't need much. we gave her our gifts as well, only two, a special book and a handmade doll. we spent the rest of the evening listening to records and watching the little kids dance in the living room while playing with balloons and eating bananas.
it was perfect.
tomorrow birdie turns two. aubrey had to go out of town this morning, so sadly he will not be here to spend the day with us. i plan on making pancakes for breakfast and we will bake a little cake in the afternoon. a low key day at home just the kids and me.
see you tomorrow birdie, when you're two. xo.
