it has been pouring on and off for days. i have a love/hate relationship with this wet weather. i love it because it cools temperatures down a lot and with the heat that summer brings it's a nice break from the swelter. i also don't have to water most of my outdoor plants or my lawn, that is a great advantage. we get to wear our beloved wellies and there is puddle jumping to be done. things are green and lush and beautiful as opposed to when we have little to no rain and things are dry and brown. on the other hand there is not much day light, the gloom starts to creep in and shadow our house making it dark which in turn makes me feel lazy and complacent. we stay inside for the most part and most outdoor activities have to be put on hold. i crave chocolate and sweets. i don't know why this is, it just is. people can't drive in the rain which results in me honking my horn an obnoxious amount of times. but the main reason that i hate the down pour is because it brings a whole new generation of asshole mosquitoes. i loathe mosquitoes. in the days after the rainfall we are usually covered in bites. we itch, we hear buzzing in our ears, it is quite frustrating.
so here we are, stuck indoors, for the most part at least. and here we are having to keep ourselves entertained. birdie and i have read lots of books, watched too much netflix, played animal hospital, built block towers, ate cookies, listened to records, danced like crazy, threw pillows, threw food (her not me), we drew pictures, she chased the cat, she rode her scooter inside... it's been fun, but we are ready to go outside. we are ready for the sunshine to come back. we want to go on bike rides and walks, and swim and run in the sprinklers. it's supposed to rain through sunday. more lightning, more thunder, more wetness. ho hum.
...i think, as i type this, that i should get off this computer. i should go dress birdie and myself in some old clothes, wrangle up the husband, throw on our rain boots and go play in the puddles. we should take advantage of this cool, wet weather instead of complain about it. yep, that sounds good.
i'll be back.
update: back already (just fifteen minutes of being outside.) the rain had stopped and the mosquitoes were out and on a mission. drats.
