{photos via longest acres. such a lovely and inspiring blog. it's one of my new favotire reads.}
i love living in the city, but i have to admit that i am a farm girl at heart. it's in my roots. i was born in south dakota and lived in a very small town called flandreau. my mom, dad and i lived out on my grandmothers farm land for a short while when i was knee high. we lived in the old, run down farm house that he grew up in. i have fond memories from that time. there is something so appealing about a more simple life. living on a big piece of land with chickens and pot bellies pigs. cherry trees, apple trees and a special papa built tree fort. an outdoor dining room and home grown meals. living in a farm house, or even better yet, a barn house. kids playing outdoors for hours on end, camping in the back yard, collecting fire wood for nightly marshmallow toasting and keeping warm on chilly evenings. being removed from the rush of city life and enjoying the small things that life has to offer sounds like a dream.
my dad still owns a nice sized piece of land out in the country in south dakota. the farm house is burned down and long gone, but could easily be rebuilt one day. but i think that south dakota is just a little too far away from big city life for me. if i did decide to move my little family outside of the city for a more simple living, i would need to be at least an hours drive from great sushi, museums, the movie theater, thrift shops and my friends of course. i need to be close enough for regular visits. it's something that i dream of. one day... xo.
