WHAT I WORE.

before i go into my "what i wore" details i must say that i am so thankful to all of you dear readers who shared your experiences, concerns, praises and encouragement with me regarding home schooling. i was completely blown away by all of the incredible comments and numerous emails that i recieved and feel like i am so much more knowledgable on the subject. thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. i will definitley keep you posted on our decisions and share our journey with you all. thank you again, i love you all so much!

okay, so today... i had a little coffee date/meeting my bueno bueno pals this morning about putting together a texas blogger round up. basically a meet and greet (inspired by the recent AZ meet up) for texas bloggers and of course any out of state bloggers who can make the trip. it's really exciting and will be so fun! we set a tentative date for may 14th but of course that won't be set in stone until we lock down our venue which should happen next week. so bloggers... check your calendars in may and if you're free, we would love for you to attend. now on to todays outfit. it was beautiful outside. sunshine but still a little chilly and perfect weather for a little dress and a warm chuncky sweater. i received this amazing WAR IS OVER! IMAGINE PEACE tunic/dress courtesy of modcloth the other day and could not wait to wear it. as most of you know i am a HUGE lennon fan and this dress had my name written all over it. it's a little short since i'm so tall but a little pair of shorts underneath did the trick.

TO SCHOOL OR NOT TO SCHOOL...AT HOME.

this has been a big important decision that i have had weighing on my shoulders. my older kiddos, julian, age 10, and plum, age 8, both go to public elementary school at the moment. it's a great school but next year julian will be in middle school and a public school system is not an option for us any longer. their dad and i have always agreed that public school once they reached those all too impressionable years was not what we wanted for our children. julian has experienced a bit of bullying this year and it has definitely effected him a little which just breaks my heart.

i have thought about private schools but the private schools here in houston are not exactly what i have in mind. i decided to explore the option of home schooling the kiddos and was pleased to find out that the state of texas is very supportive of private home schooling and so this just may be the right choice for us. of course i have a few concerns, one being the anti-social aspect of home schooling and also the commitment and time that i will need to dedicate to teaching my kiddos myself. i am thinking that it would be best to find a few other moms in the area who are also home schooling or want to home school that we could get together with and school our children as a group on some days. i would also like to have group library days and group field trips. there are many of these groups here already in place that i am looking into however most of them are heavily religion based. we are not a particularly "religious" bunch and so many of these groups would not be the right fit for our family. i will continue looking into the subject but am really excited to give this my all. my children are the most important thing to me and i want to do what is best for them. i have already decided that if and when we start home schooling that i will enroll the kids into an outside art program and also participate in activities like dance and music.

i'm curious to know if any of you home school or were home schooled. do you have any advice and experiences that you would'nt mind sharing? i'm curious about everything right down to managing and scheduling schooling around your eveyday life. that would be so helpful to us. i have looked into several different curriculums and i think i found a couple that may fit our needs but am so open to any other suggestions and information out there.

lately i have been so bored with our home. i'm talking so bored that i don't want to be here much. and that's a pickle because i have to spend a lot of time at home with the birdie during the day to keep her on a schedule. i can't help but just want to be out and about all the time. our house is dark and the rooms are small. i want to move to a bigger, brighter space but unfortunately that isn't in the cards for us right now so i needed to come up with a solution to cure this house boredom funk that i have fallen into. we decided to PURGE in a BIG WAY! i want to get rid of all this STUFF. being a vintage collector and dealer for so many years, i have accumulated many THINGS. TOO many things and certain spaces in our home are becoming cluttered. as much as i love some of these things, it's time for them to go or else i have a feeling we'll end up on a future episode of hoarders. we've started getting rid of stuff and putting it in the back house in preparation for a big "spring cleaning yard sale" that we are getting ready for. the kiddos are so excited! they've been wanting to have a yard sale for the past couple of years so they could sell some of their old toys and make a lemonade stand. the cheers and excitement that came out of those two when i told them it was happening soon was mighty adorable.

in addition to getting rid of half of our belongings we are painting our dark gray walls WHITE! (hence the amazing white walled inspiration above.) something i have been bugging the mister to do for over a year now. i mean we already have the paint, we just haven't had the time. so "hopefully" we can get around to brightening this place up within the next couple of weeks, one room at a time, and then we can rearrange and get a few new special pieces for our home. i've been on the hunt for a new couch and a couple other pieces of furniture to change this place up a bit. i also want house plants. a whole slew of them. i've had numerous plants in the past and sadly i've killed them ALL, but i have a secret plan of action on how NOT to kill the new plants this time around... i will be adding plant watering to the kiddos chores list. fancy idea isn't it?!!

there is so much inspiration out there in internet land, holy smokes! i could have made this blog post a mile long but i think i will end here and just tell you that i am excited. i cannot wait to make this place fresh and new for the remainder of our time here. the only room that i am happy with at the moment is gemma bird's. and OF COURSE there will be a house tour when i'm done. maybe even a mini room by room tour as i complete each space. oh yes, i am so motivated!

THE LITTLE THEATRE.

on our trip to ikea the other day the kiddos bought some cute little finger puppets with their reward money. of course they wanted to build a puppet theatre to put on some shows, so this afternoon thats just what we did. we used some things we found lying around the house: an old box or two, a stick from the yard, fabric scraps, string, scotch tape and some markers to complete this easy project. after about 30 minutes of setting up, the little theatre was ready for playtime. the imaginations ran wild... nuff said.

thinking we might run to the art supply store tomorrow to pick up some glitter and replace the fabric hearts with big shiney stars since, well... the puppets are MOVIE STARS. oh and we also popped popcorn while we sat back and watched.

WHAT I WORE: BIRDIE & ME.

the weather has been unbelievable this past week. it's perfect! the birdie and i have spent most of our days hanging on the porch listening to records through the open windows. i love this time of year. unfortunatley it never lasts long... soon the texas heat & humidity will take over, but for now... we are enjoying ever last bit of it.
